Soothing the Wandering Wind.

A Rewilded Rhythms™ Approach to Seasonal Balance

As summer begins to shift into fall, the body moves into a different rhythm.

The air becomes cooler and drier.
Movement increases.
Stability decreases.

In Ayurveda, this is Vata season.

And for many people, this is when a specific pattern starts to show up: The Wandering Wind.

What Wandering Wind Feels Like.

Sleep becomes lighter—or harder to fall into.
Your mind speeds up at night.
Thoughts scatter instead of settle.
Your body feels less grounded than it did just weeks before.

You might also notice:

  • Dry skin or throat.
  • Irregular digestion or bloating.
  • Tension or restlessness in the body.
  • A sense of being “all over the place”.

This isn’t random.

It’s a pattern.

Why It Happens.

Wandering Wind reflects an increase in movement and dryness in the system.

When that builds without enough grounding to balance it, the body loses its ability to settle.

That shows up most clearly at night—
when sleep should be deep, steady, and restoring.

Instead, it becomes light, interrupted, or difficult to access.

How to Start Soothing It.

The goal isn’t to “fix” yourself.

It’s to bring your system back into balance.

That starts with adding back what’s missing: warmth, consistency, and grounding

Nourish Your Body.

Focus on warm, cooked meals with healthy fats like ghee or sesame oil.

Lean into root vegetables, soft grains, and warming spices like cinnamon, ginger, and cardamom.

Add soothing herbs like marshmallow root, slippery elm, or licorice to support dry tissues and digestion.

Support Digestion.

When rhythm is off, digestion is usually affected too.

Start your day with something warm—sip plain warm water or herbal tea.

Keep meals consistent and unrushed.

And if you’re able, add abhyanga (warm oil massage) to your routine.
It’s one of the most effective ways to calm the nervous system and bring the body back to center.

Slow the Pace.

This is where most people resist—and where the biggest shift happens.

As the season changes, your body needs less stimulation and more stability.

Choose slower movement.
Create a consistent bedtime.
Let evenings become simple and tech-free earlier.

Warm, simple routines signal to your body that it’s safe to rest again.

When It Shows Up in Your Sleep.

If your mind is busy at night…
if you fall asleep but wake with racing thoughts…
if your rest feels light or inconsistent...

You’re likely in a Wandering Wind pattern.

What Actually Helps.

Understanding the pattern is the first step, but calming it requires structure.

Because when your system is scattered, it won’t settle on its own.
